When to Clean Your Gutters in Denver, and Why Timing Matters Here
Clogged gutters cause overflow, ice dams, and foundation problems through a Colorado winter. Here is when to clean gutters on the Front Range and how to know they are due.
By Pineda Power Washing
Gutters are easy to ignore until water is pouring over the front edge in a storm or freezing into a wall of ice along the eaves. On the Front Range, the timing of a gutter cleaning matters more than people think, because of how our weather swings.
Why Denver gutters clog
It is not just leaves. Front Range gutters fill with shingle grit, wind-blown dirt, pine needles, helicopter seeds, and the fine debris that summer storms wash off the roof. That mix packs down into a dense layer that water cannot get through, especially at the downspout openings.
The two times a year that matter most
Late fall, after the leaves drop and before the first hard freeze, is the single most important cleaning. Gutters full of wet debris going into winter are how you get ice dams: water backs up, freezes at the edge, and forces meltwater under the shingles. The second key time is late spring, after the windy season and the first round of summer storms have loaded the gutters back up.
Signs your gutters are due now
- Water spilling over the edge during rain instead of running to the downspout
- Plants or grass sprouting out of the gutter run
- Streaks or staining on the siding below the gutter line
- Sagging sections where the weight of wet debris is pulling the gutter away from the fascia
- Pooling water near the foundation after a storm
Why clogged gutters get expensive
The gutter itself is cheap to clean. What it protects is not. Overflow that runs down the wall and pools at the base of the house is a direct line to foundation and basement problems, and ice dams can damage the roof edge and the interior ceilings below. A cleaning is maintenance. The damage from skipping it is a repair.
Do it with the wash and save a trip
Gutter cleaning at Pineda is $1.25 per linear foot, and we will clear and flush the runs on the same visit as a house or driveway wash so you book one crew once. We are already on the ladder, so it makes sense to handle both at the same time.
